Making the decision to visit a new church can be a little intimidating. What should you expect? What are the people like? Will you fit in? We're thrilled that you're interested in what Richelieu Valley United Church has to offer, and we hope the following information will help answer any questions you have and make your visit with us an enjoyable and memorable one. Please contact us for more information.
When we meet...
Worship services are held every Sunday morning at 10:30am in the Sanctuary.
Where to park ... Richelieu Valley United Church does not have its own parking lot, but there is plenty of street parking. Remember ... our building is located in a residential area, so please be considerate of our neighbours!
Where to come in ... Please enter the building using the doors facing Hertel Street, as other doors will be locked. We share our building with a Catholic congregation, Our Lady of Fatima Church, which meets just before we do. If you arrive early, please make yourself comfortable in the large waiting area outside the Sanctuary.
What we do ... In addition to a sermon from our minister, a typical Sunday morning worship service here at Richelieu Valley United Church includes bible readings, prayers, an offering, the minister's discussion time with the children and a choral anthem performed by our fabulous choir. Throughout the service we sing a diverse collection of songs ... from traditional hymns such as Amazing Grace to contemporary hymns like Here I Am Lord.
Communion...
Communion is served once a month, and everyone present is invited to take part.
What to wear ...
We do not have a dress code, and we encourage you to come as you are. Those who attend wear everything from casual to business wear, and we are far more concerned with meeting your spiritual needs than we are with analyzing your personal choice of dress.
No one is left behind ...
We believe in working together as a community; helping each other grow and develop into the men and women God intended us to be. We are a community that believes no one should be left behind. If you live in the area and need a ride to church, we can have someone come and get you. A written copy of the sermon can be printed and available for you on Sunday mornings should you need it. We can also provide large-print bulletins with advance notice. We also have hearing devices for those who need them.
Please feel free to let us know ahead of time of any special needs so we can properly accomodate you and make you comfortable.
Worship for children...
During the service ... At Richelieu Valley United Church we have incorporated children into our worship service every Sunday. Early in the service, the minister meets with all the children at the front of the Sanctuary. This is known as "time with the children". Stories are told, lessons are learned, questions are raised. The children then take time to pray together. It's a wounderful time for the minister (and the congregation) to connect with the kids, and vice-versa. We currently do not have a Sunday School program for children.
Special Events ...
Pot Luck Lunches ... Once a month, we gather as a community to share food and fellowship. This monthly pot luck is held after our Sunday morning service, and everyone is invited to attend. Should you feel inspired to bring along a dish, you may drop it off in the kitchen prior to the service. But everyone is welcome, even if you haven't had time to prepare a dish. Check the events list for date of the next potluck.
