Worship

Making the decision to visit a new church can be a little intimidating. What should you expect? What are the people like? Will you fit in? We're thrilled that you're interested in what Richelieu Valley United Church has to offer, and we hope the following information will help answer any questions you have and make your visit with us an enjoyable and memorable one. Please contact us for more information.

When we meet...
Worship services are held every Sunday morning at 10:30am at Mountainview Elementary School, 444 Mountainview in Otterburn Park. We will be in this temporary location until June 30, 2010, as we take time to make decisions about a more permanent home.

Where to park ... school parking lot is available to us.

What we do ... In addition to a sermon from our minister, a typical Sunday morning worship service here at Richelieu Valley United Church includes Bible readings, prayers, an offering, the minister's sharing time with the children and often a choral anthem from our choir. Throughout the service we sing a diverse collection of songs ...from the older United Church hymn book, Voices United and our new subblement collection, More Voices.

Communion...
In the United Church communion is a time to celebrate God's gifts of love and presence with us. We do this using the symbols of bread and juice as we remember Jesus' life example of these wonderful gifts. We celebrate in this way once a month and everyone is invited to join in.

What to wear ...
We do not have a dress code, and we encourage you to come as you are. Those who attend wear everything from casual to business wear, and we are far more concerned with meeting your spiritual needs than we are with analyzing your personal choice of dress.

No one is left behind ...

We believe in working together as a community; helping each other grow and develop into the peopleGod intended us to be. We are a community that believes no one should be left behind. If you live in the area and need a ride to church, we can have someone come and get you. A written copy of the sermon can be printed and available for you on Sunday mornings should you need it. We can also provide large-print bulletins with advance notice. Please feel free to let us know ahead of time of any special needs so we can properly accomodate you and make you comfortable.

Worship for children...
At Richelieu Valley United Church we believe our children are an important part of our worship service.. Early in the service, the minister meets with all the children. Stories are told, lessons are learned, questions are raised. The children then take time to pray together. It's a wounderful time for the minister (and the congregation) to connect with the kids, and vice-versa. Even if no children are present we take time to pray for our children and talk about how we can share faith with them.  We currently do not have a Sunday School program but we do have a designated children's area with books and coloring supplies.

Special Events ...

Pot Luck Lunches ... Once a month, we gather as a community to share food and fellowship. This monthly pot luck is held after our Sunday morning service, and everyone is invited to attend. Should you feel inspired to bring along a dish, you may drop it off in the kitchen prior to the service. But everyone is welcome, even if you haven't had time to prepare a dish. Check the events list for date of the next potluck.
